By leveraging the science of soft robotics, it is now possible to automate facilities that have traditionally depended upon manual labor for bin picking, order fulfillment, and other complex pick and place tasks. This technology is proven in manufacturing installations today and enabling new robotic solutions for the food supply chain, advanced manufacturing applications, and the e-commerce logistics industry. 


We are looking to hire an Applications Engineer to join our world class team.  This position is a key customer support function within the Engineering organization. The person is expected to work very closely with customers to understand their technical needs during the pre-sales process.  Then effectively translates customer needs to design requirements in partnership with the product development team. This role owns the technical relationship with the customer. Post-sales, the role quickly transitions to providing product training and helping the customer get the most out of their investment in the shortest amount of time. Key areas of responsibilities include pre-sales support, project engineering, post-sales and service support, product training, tradeshow, and marketing support. Application development technical documentation is also part of this role.


What You’ll Do


  1. Pre-sales Support
    1. Partner with sales team to determine customer requirements;
    2. Build and test End of Arm Tooling (EOAT) prototypes for applications; Demonstrate performance capability and develop robot programs to verify application feasibility.
  2. Project Engineering
    1. Simultaneously manage multiple customer projects;
    2. Simultaneously manage multiple customer projects to ensure that all relevant technical information is documented;
    3. Provide applications engineering support (robot programming, wiring, testing) for development engineering.
  3. Post-sales and Service Support
    1. Support on-site installations and maintenance;
    2. Provide technical phone support and troubleshooting for customers.
  4. Provide Training
    1. Provide onsite training for customers;
    2. Provide training at Soft Robotics for new employees, customers, and partners.
  5. Tradeshows and Marketing Support
    1. Design, build, and program tradeshow systems;
    2. Represent Soft Robotics as technical expert in booth;
    3. Provide applications engineering support (incl. creating use case videos) to Marketing team.
  6. Create Documentation
    1. Ensure technical manuals are correct and complete;
    2. Develop application notes to expand on manuals as needed.

Who You’ll Be


  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Robotics Engineering required. Specialization in robotics preferred;
  • Experience with programming (any language) required;
  • Experience in robotics and automation preferred;
  • Ability to program and work with robots typically used in industrial or general automation (e.g., one or more of ABB, Fanuc, Kuka, Yashakwa) preferred;
  • Experience with industrial I/O preferred.
  • 3D Modelling experience preferred. Solidworks preferred;
  • Vision system experience preferred;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience using MS Office products required;
  • Start-up experience preferred;
  • Positive attitude with a passionate, customer-focused, problem-solving approach required;
  • Ability to learn quickly and self-start in a fast-paced startup environment required;
  • Domestic travel up to 30%. International travel up to 5%
